Stair parts
We stock a large range of stair parts for customers to create elegant balustrade for their staircases.
Materials: There is a choice of pine, mahogony, hemlock and oak. Pine is the most popular as it is the least expensive and is suitable for painting or staining. Hemlock is a light coloured hardwood; it's main benefit is that it has no knots; it is inexpensive compared to other hardwoods; and is suitable for staining. Mahogony, or red hardwood, is a dark timber with a beautiful grain which is suitable for staining. Oak is the often viewed as the ideal timber as it has a magnificent grain, no knots and light colour; it's drawback is the cost.
Parts: to create balustrade there are several components that are needed to be cut and fixed as pictured below:-

Caps: Note the cylindrical spiggots on bottom of caps; these are to be inserted into the top of newels. |

Brief fitting guide overview: Starting with a new staircase; the stair strings and newel bases must be mortice and tennoned jointed; newels are inserted and glued into the newel bases; handrails and bases rails are mitred and fixed to the newels; spindles are then mitred into the handrail and base rail; the spindles are separated by fillets which fit in the hand and baserail groove; Caps are then fitted. When removing old balustrade the installer has to be careful to cut the exiting newels to the correct length; you are in trouble if you don't. Other things to look out for are correct handrail height and correct spindle spacing
