This contains important information regarding looking after your doors.
Engineered Doors
Virtually all our range of internal doors are engineered. When a door is refered to as engineered it means that the components of the door (Stiles, midrails etc..) are made from small solid blocks of various timbers(including softwood and sometimes chipboard) which are glued together and overveneered. This will give the appearance of a totally solid timber door and will be much more stable than a door which isn't engineered. The problem is, it is impossible to tell what the door is made from until it is cut into.
Example: We sell solid oak engineered doors but it doesn't mean they are made from solid oak. The only part of a solid oak engineered door that is oak is the overveneer. A door which is made from solid timber would be highly likely to twist.
The thing to watch out for with engineered doors is that the overveneer is extremely thin and cannot be sanded. If it is sanded the overveer will be penetrated and the core revealed. Thus ruining the door. Engineered doors are lipped around it's edges in the same timber as it's overveneer. This lip may be as thin as 12mm, so you have to be aware that when cutting more than the thickness of the lip away from any edge the core will be revealed.
